Three-Piece Indian Sterling Silver Tea Service
Three-Piece Indian Sterling Silver Tea Service
A three-piece Indian sterling silver tea service, richly decorated with floral relief ornamentation and featuring serpent-form handles and an elephant finial.
Sold Out
This finely worked three-piece sterling silver tea service is composed of a coffee pot, cream jug, and round bowl, all executed in solid sterling silver (925) and attributed to India, 20th century. Each element is richly adorned with an all-over floral relief decoration, displaying the intricate repoussé and chasing techniques characteristic of Indian silverwork.
The coffee pot features a flat hinged lid surmounted by an elephant finial, a traditional symbolic motif in Indian decorative arts, and a boldly modeled serpent-form handle. The cream jug mirrors this design language on a smaller scale, also fitted with a snake-shaped handle. The accompanying round bowl continues the dense floral ornamentation, completing the cohesive ensemble.
The set reflects the synthesis of traditional Indian craftsmanship with Western functional forms, likely intended for export or colonial-era domestic use. Minor age-related wear and light denting to the rims are consistent with use and age, without detracting from the visual presence or structural integrity of the pieces.
