Russian Silver-Gilt and Enamel Cup and Saucer Set, Moscow, 1871
Russian Silver-Gilt and Enamel Cup and Saucer Set, Moscow, 1871
A finely decorated Russian silver cup and saucer set, richly enameled in translucent royal blue and green with gilt foliate motifs and enamel bead detailing, bearing apocryphal Moscow marks dated 1871.
This elegant Russian cup and saucer set is crafted in silver of minimum 800 standard and lavishly decorated with gold foliate and geometric motifs accented by white and red enamel bead details.
The cup features a fully translucent royal blue enamel ground over guilloché engraving, while the saucer is similarly decorated but finished in translucent green enamel over guilloché. The contrast between the two pieces enhances the visual richness typical of late 19th-century Russian decorative silver.
The set bears apocryphal hallmarks indicating a silver fineness of 91 zolotniki, Moscow city marks, and the date 1871. While the marks are not official assay stamps, they are consistent with decorative Russian silver produced for export or private markets during the period.
Minor losses are present, consistent with age and use, but the set retains strong decorative appeal and craftsmanship representative of Russian enamel work of the late Imperial era.
