The clock case is designed as a snail with a rock crystal shell, symbolizing rarity and precision, and features a finely worked silver dial with enamel Roman numerals. The watch-type movement is attributed to Anton Hiebner, a known Viennese horologist.
The case rests on a rich lapis lazuli base, bordered with delicate enamel foliate decoration in vivid polychrome tones. The snail is harnessed to a pair of elaborately modeled hippocamps adorned with seed pearls, with Triton positioned between them, holding the reins.
