An exquisite 18th/19th-century Swiss gold verge quarter-repeating pocket watch featuring automaton Jacquemart figures striking bells, with enameled dial and finely crafted gilt movement.
This exquisite automaton pocket watch is a superb example of early 19th-century Swiss horological artistry. It features a frosted gilt full-plate single fusee movement with four columnar pillars and a verge escapement, regulated by a sprung brass three-arm balance. The repeating mechanism produces a “ting-tang” chime on the hours and quarters when the pendant is depressed.
The dial reveals a cobalt blue guilloché enamel ground, beautifully overlaid with multi-color gold appliqué figures and motifs. At its center, a pair of winged putti (jacquemarts) strike hammers in time with the repeater against bell-shaped ornaments, while below, a symbolic lovebird and brazier accentuate the neoclassical inspiration.
Framed within a narrow white enamel chapter ring with vertical Arabic numerals, the watch retains its original blued steel moon hands.
