A FINE SWISS GOLD VERGE QUARTER-REPEATING ‘JACQUEMART’ AUTOMATON POCKET WATCHUNSIGNED, PROBABLY GENEVA, CIRCA 1820The frosted gilt full-plate single fusee movement with four columnar pillars pinned through the backplate and verge escapement regulated by sprung brass three-arm balance with Tompion type regulation, the repeat work ‘ting-tang’ sounding the hours and quarters on a graduated pair of gongs on depression the pendant, the backplate applied with delicate foliate scroll pierced rosette balance bridge and silver ADVANCE/RETARD regulation adjustment disc to centre, also with polished steel visible mainspring set-up ratchet and small V/L adjustment sector scale, the dial with open-centre revealing sub-dial work within a cobalt blue guilloche enamelled ring surround overlaid in tri-colour gold with a pair of opposing winged putti, each standing on a floral cornucopia and with an arm aloft holding a hammer to simulate the sounding of the hours and ting-tang quarters in time with the repeat on a pair of bell-design pendants suspended from scroll-shaped bracket, the lower margin decorated with a lovebird perched within foliage next to a neoclassical brazier. Set behind a convex glass within narrow white enamel chapter ring with vertically aligned Arabic hour numerals, with blued steel moon hands, the case with plain moulded-edge hinged rear cover, conforming convex-glazed front cover and engine-turned circumference fitted with a repeat lock slide and push-repeat pendant post incorporating hinged bow at twelve o’clock, the inside of the rear cover case with octagonal winged sphinx mark numbered 3, crowned initials C C within a diamond lozenge and various numbers 6514, 2147 and 17.
