This elegant French silver-mounted claret jug (Henkel-Karaffe) dates to the 19th century and is marked with the Minerva head, 1st standard, indicating .950 silver purity. The body is formed from spiral-cut clear glass, creating a dynamic play of light beneath the richly chased silver mounts.

The silver neck and foot mounts are decorated with acanthus leaves, floral scrolls, and Rococo shell motifs, typical of French decorative silver of the period. A bold right-side silver handle, sculpted with scrolling ornament, provides visual balance and structural integrity. The hinged lid is formed as a shell motif, consistent with the Rococo vocabulary, and appears to have been repaired or supplemented at a later date.

Traces of original gilding remain within the mounts, particularly around the neck and base. While some decorative leaf tips are missing and there is minor wear to the mounts, the jug retains strong sculptural presence and remains visually complete.

This type of object was intended for formal table service, combining fine glass with high-grade silver to elevate presentation during dining or entertaining.
