This substantial Indian silver casket dates to the early 20th century and reflects the high standard of repoussé and chased silverwork produced in colonial India. The rectangular body is elaborately decorated on all sides with continuous narrative scenes depicting animals, trees, village architecture, and figures engaged in everyday activities, creating a lively panoramic effect.

The hinged cover is surmounted by a finely cast figure of a lion, a traditional symbol of authority and protection, and further enriched with chased animal and landscape motifs. The interior is fabric lined, indicating its original function as a presentation or keepsake casket. The plinth base is engraved with foliate decoration along the shoulder and raised on bracket feet, adding architectural presence and balance.

The casket bears a presentation inscription reading: “C.R. Brandt Esq from Indian Staff of Messrs Orr Dignam & Co, 2 March 1931,” firmly anchoring the piece within its historical and social context. A highly decorative and historically resonant object, representative of Anglo-Indian silver presentation pieces of the period.
